RIP Tim Hetherington

Photojournalist and Oscar-nominated filmmaker Tim Hetherington was tragically killed during a mortar attack in Libya on April 20, 2011. Most famous for the war documentary film Restrepo he produced and directed with Sebastian Junger, Hetherington was working on a doc on the conflict between Muammar Gaddafi's forces and rebels in Misurata, Libya when he died.

  1. This was very unfortunate news. Although he was a controversial photojournalist and filmmaker, it is sad to see someone killed at the young age of 41. It is always heartbreaking to see or hear people lose their lives from bringing the news stories to our televisions. I certainly hope this documentary still comes through. May Tim Hetherington rest in peace.

  2. I think the type of situations that news journalists have to undergo is unforeseen and unknown to many individuals. I think they are not honored enough and should be given much more recognition for bringing us the up-to-date news on what is happening in every situation. I did not even know who he was until I read this blog post. Obama mentioned during his White House Correspondents' dinner. After he says his humorous jokes he thanks the journalists for risking their lives to bringing the news.

  3. This is absolutely tragic and my heart goes out to his loved ones. His death like many other reporter and filmer's deaths highlight the forgotten innosint lives that are lost as results of conflict. Wars do not simply involve two sides fighting each other - often they include non-involved bystanders who are simply sharing the story of the war. This death tole of such victims is most likely increasing in recent years as journalism and film technology have also increased.
